STANWELL Selected Briar 78

STANWELL Selected Briar 78

Denmark, 1960s

A very nice lightweight and rare Stanwell pipe from the registration era. The shape number 78 was created by unsurpassed Siksten Ivarsson in 1950s. But since there is a crown on the stem, then the pipe was made a bit later, in 1960s. Usually Stanwell offered all shapes both with smooth and sandblasted finish, but the 78th was only smooth and was not produced anymore after the registration period. Thus the pipe is a real rarity, moreover it’s the “hand made” of “selected briar”!

The pipe markings are “STANWELL \ REGD. № 969-48 \ HAND MADE”, “MADE IN DENMARK”, “SELECTED BRIAR \ 78”. The length is 14.0 cm, bowl’s hight is 4.1 cm. External dimensions of the bowl are 3.2 x 4.2 cm,  internal diameter is 1.8 cm. The depth is 3.2 cm and this pipe weights 31 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has been protected with the break-in coat.
