ED BURAK Connoisseur

USA

Ed Burak began as a meerschaum pipe repairman and carver, but soon after that in 1968 he bought the Connossieur pipe shop in New York and dedicated all his time and effort to pipes design. A range of the great pipe carvers were working for Ed over this time, some sources mention Tony Pesante and Joe Cortegiano, some others say Ed didn’t disclosure names of artisans involved in the production. But despite the names of carvers Ed Burak pipes are an uneclipsed sample of the smoking pipes design art!

This pipe was made after 1981. The pipe markings are “CONNOISSEUR \ N.Y.C. \ E Burak”. The length is 14.5 cm (5.71″), bowl’s height is 5.8 cm (2.28″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.3 cm (1.69″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.7 cm (1.85″) and this pipe weights 55 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber is very lightly smoked with a few small scratches made perhaps by a cleaning tool.

France A calabash shape (some call it “a bell”) was always highly appreciated by collectors as the most associated with the smoking pipes history and ancient traditional shapes. • MARXMAN Jumbo 4

USA, 1930s The pipe comes to us with the 1930s collection, so it’s probably one of the early Marxmans – the company has been founded in 1934 by Robert (Bob) L.
