CHARATAN’S MAKE Special 483DC

England, 1960s

The 483 shape was perhaps one of the most recognized and appreciated creatures of the Lane era Charatan’s carvers (1960-1970). Some call it a calabash, some else – a bell (the overturned bowl looks really like a bell). A great example and justification that Charatan’s pipe of these times were much better sold and respected than Dunhill’s.

The pipe markings are “CHARATAN’S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ SPECIAL”, “483DC”. The length is 14.0 cm (5.51″), bowl’s height is 4.9 cm (1.93″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.3 cm (1.69″), internal diameter is 2.3 cm (0.9″). The depth is 4.2 cm (1.65″) and this pipe weights 41 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
