(CHARATAN’S MAKE) Reject Made By Hand

England, 1960-70s

Both the stamping “Made by hand” and the heavy bowled shape were absolutely typical for the Charatan’s second Lane era (1965 – middle of 1970s) pipes. This sample was perhaps predetermined to become at least an upper middle grade pipe, but a couple of scratches and chips changed its destiny quite dramatically and it remained an unrecognized Charatan’s creature until these days.

The pipe markings are “MADE BY HAND”, “REJECT \ LONDON MADE”. The length is 15.9 cm (6.26″), bowl’s height is 5.3 cm (2.09″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.6 cm (1.81″), internal diameter is 2.3 cm (0.9″). The depth is 4.1 cm (1.61″) and this pipe weights 78 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has been protected with a break-in coat.
