BEN WADE Selected Grain 276

England, 1960s

A pleasant example of the Charatan’s carvers art made in 1960s under the Ben Wade trade mark! Initially Ben Wade was an old good English family manufactory. Soon after the WWII the brand was acquired by Lane Ltd from USA, the producer of fantastic Charatan’s pipes at that time. And we’re glad to represent one of these “Charatan’s era” Ben Wade pipes – lightweight, comfortable “öwn Charatan’s style” pipe from 1960s!

The pipe markings are “276”, “Ben Wade \ Selected Grain \ LONDON MADE”. The length is 14.7 cm (5.79″), bowl’s height is 4.7 cm (1.85″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.3 cm (1.69″), internal diameter is 2.2 cm (0.87″). The depth is 4.1 cm (1.61″) and this pipe weights 32 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem (slightly patched, you may identify the trace under a good light), no filter. The chamber has normal smoked wear. The pipe comes with the original box and sleeve.

  • BEN WADE Hand Model

England, 1960s A great example of the Charatan’s production in 1970-s at Prescott Str. factory! The pipe looks really like a work of art: slightly asymmetric panelled bowl is skilfully combined with an almost the stright grain of briar. It sits in hand very warmly, reliably and trustfully indeed like many free hands can’t sit. Thus no need…

  • GBD Garland II 9552

England 1980-90s A very stylish GBD pipe made not such a long time ago – approximately in the 1980s. Nevertheless the original shape (named most frequently a “Calabash” or a “Bell”) is strongly reminescent of old good English calabash pipes. What an amazing continuity of traditions!
