England, 1960s
A great example of the Charatan’s production in 1970-s at Prescott Str. factory! The pipe looks really like a work of art: slightly asymmetric panelled bowl is skilfully combined with an almost the stright grain of briar. It sits in hand very warmly, reliably and trustfully indeed like many free hands can’t sit. Thus no need to invent and carve sophisticated and provocative pipes: just more attention to briar, a few grams of a skill and some drops of a talent! A wonderful pipe!
And a quite rare pipe at the same time. Most of popular “Hand Models” were produced later, at Preben Holm times. But this pipe is really a “London Made” one! The pipe markings are “Ben Wade \ HAND MODEL \ LONDON MADE”. The length is 13.4 cm, bowl’s hight is 4.8 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 4.0 cm and 2.3 cm. The depth is 3.8 cm and this pipe weights 35 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
