SVENDBORG Baltic 402

SVENDBORG Baltic 402

Denmark, 1970-90s

A very convincing and stylish large Danish pipe. The company was founded in 1970s by Henrik Jørgensen, Poul Ilsted and Tao Nielsen and successfully produced practical and affordable Danish pipes untill the acquisition by Design Berlin in late 1990s.

The pipe markings are “Baltic \ Svendborg \ DANISH \ HAND MADE”, “402”. The length is 14.5 cm (5.71″), bowl’s height is 5.0 cm (1.97″). External diameter of the bowl is  4.1 cm (1.61″),  internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.3 cm (1.69″) and this pipe weights 52 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has been protected with a break-in coat. The stem is newly made from the fresh piece of vulcanite so we can consider the pipe as a “partially unsmoked” :-).

Denmark An extraordinary Danish work! As every proper Danish pipe it’s made of a good briar, shows nice grain and has skilfully designed freehand shape. But the most of all we’re absolutely amazed with its sense of equilibrium – the pipe can surely balance just on its heel (back side of its bottom). Some signs…

  • POUL HANSEN Hansen Briar

Denmark, 1960-70s The early Poul Hansen pipes did look strange if not odd. Actually he came to pipe carving from machine and tool making and among he’s very much valued and respected customers were great pipe brands like Pibe-Dan, W.Ø. Larsen and others. And it seems it was not only a good business for him,…

Denmark We haven’t identified the maker of this pipe, but regardless that it’s a really impressive Danish pipe, made of good piece of briar, skillfully carved, shaped and drilled, with the remarkable distinct straight grain. Recommended!

  • VIGGO NIELSEN Hand-Finished

Denmark. 1960-70s An exquisite pipe from Viggo Nielsen, the oldest Danish pipe maker. Denmark Nobody knows where his investigations can bring. We looked recently for an information about a rare Danish manufactory and came across the description of the American patent No. US3750677 (1971). There is described a basically new (at least according to inventor’s believe) construction of a smoking pipe: it has to be made as a…
