BEN WADE Tawny

BEN WADE Tawny

Denmark, 1970s

This is the second Preben Holm pipe in our store. The previous one was made for Dunhill under the trade mark Harcourt. Our today’s pipe was carved for the Dunhill’s biggest competitor – Charatan managed by Hermann Lane. Such an interesting turn, isn’t it?

In the beginning of 1970 Preben Holm had substantial financial difficulties and looked for any opportunity. At the same time Charatan’s owner looked for a source of freehand pipes for American market. So fruitful and successful cooperation begun under the Ben Wade trade mark. “Danish Ben Wade”!

Why Ben Wade? Until that time Ben Wade company was acquired by Charatan and Ben Wade pipes were something like a second brand. Therefore fresh and expressive freehands made a real revival of this legendary name. Thus it’s another example how a great manager can successfully utilize all resources!

The pipe marking is “Bew Wade \ TAWNY \ HAND MADE \ IN \ DENMARK”. The length is 14.2 cm, bowl’s hight is 5.9 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 3.4 cm and 2.3 cm. The depth is 3.7 cm and this pipe weights 48gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
