SER JACOPO Rowlette Maxima

SER JACOPO Rowlette Maxima

Italy, 1990-2000s

Giancarlo Guidi’s (Ser Jacopo dalla Gemma) entry in the pipe makers’ competition themed “imitation of wax drops.” We have already showcased the impressive works of Roberto Ascorti and Mario Gasparini, but Giancarlo’s piece stands out as the most successful imitation—and also the largest one, according to the specifications.

Most notably, check the details and you’ll see why it rightly bears the “Maxima” mark. This pipe was made after 1997, as indicated by the logo on the mouthpiece—a silver letter “J.”

The pipe is not for sale. It was restored to order and has already started a new life in a new cozy home.

Italy This pipe appears to be another example from Savinelli’s Hand Made line—a sort of secondary branch of the Savinelli Autograph series. At least all the usual signs are here: the marking style matches other Savinelli Hand Made pipes, the briar boasts a rich, attractive grain, the shape flows naturally, and the blend of smooth…

Italy, 1960-65 Today we would call it “a challenge”. Over the last century many artisans and manufacturers represented their embodiment of the wax-drip pipes imitating the candle surface. The first pipe was carved by Castello, a few really stunning examples were made under the Ser Jacopo, Radice, Ardor, Larysson and even Dunhill brands. But one…

  • Mario Grandi

Italy Mario Grandi is not a real person. Mario Grandi is a brand name, or, to be more exact, a sub brand name related to Mastro Beraldi. At the same time Mastro Beraldi is not a real person either. The real name of a real person (and the very hardworking pipe carer!) who stands behind…

Actually we don’t see any convincing reasons why it was stamped Ben Wade, not Charatan’s Make….
