SAVINELLI Sherwood Rock Briar 316

SAVINELLI Sherwood Rock Briar 316

Italy

A pipe from an intriguing Savinelli series whose name sounds distinctly English, and whose finish appears deliberately rough and simple. But it’s not all as straightforward as it seems. A few years ago, a Savinelli Sherwood Rock Briar went up for auction online — reportedly one personally smoked by Elvis Presley, which he supposedly left behind at a friend’s house in Las Vegas.

While we haven’t found any photos of Elvis with a Savinelli, numerous images show him with other pipes, and the authenticated documents accompanying the auction are quite convincing. It’s a shame the King is so often overlooked in traditional online lists of famous pipe smokers.
