ROPP Super Luxe S85

ROPP Super Luxe S85

France

Throughout its one hundred and twenty-year history, ROPP has been the undisputed leader not only in France but also worldwide when it comes to cherrywood pipes. This success might have been all there was to it if not for the collaboration with Adolf Frankau (BBB), which prompted the family manufactory in Burgundy to begin working with briar, a material that was just starting to gain popularity in the early 20th century. Interestingly, this new direction proved to be so successful for ROPP that in the 1930s, Cadogan made significant efforts to gain control of the factory and acquire the rights to all the shapes developed by the French artisans, which later served Comoy very well.

The Ropp family went out of business in the late 1970s, and the company ceased operations in 1991, but attempts to revive this French pipe legend have been made from time to time. In the early 21st century, Cadogan attempted to do so, and today, ROPP pipes are offered by Chapuis-Comoy.
