Denmark, 1960s

Danish carver Preben Holm was perhaps the most bright and inspiring person in history of pipe making. He sold his first pipes before his 16 birthday. Preben Holm was one of most significant inventors and developers of “Danish pipe design” and many smokers and enthusiasts respect him as a father of freehand pipes. In 1970s many great and sophisticated Ben Wade pipes were made in cooperation with Lane Ltd (owner of Charatan’s in 1960-70’s).

But our today’s pipe with the grade number in a circle was made earlier, between 1968 and 1970. Therefore this is not only a fantastic pipe made by genius, but also a very collectable work of art.

The pipe markings are “PREBEN HOLM \ Hand Cut \ COPENHAGEN \ DENMARK”, “(2)”. The length is 16.2 cm, bowl’s hight is 5.6 cm. External dimensions of the bowl are 4.1 x 4.3 cm, internal diameter is 2.2 cm. The depth is 4.5 cm and this pipe weights 51 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has been protected with a break-in coat.
