Hansen Junior

Denmark

The history knows a few extraorinary men: Bård Hansen (Norway) known for his Tabago brand, Jan Hansen (pseudonyme used by Henrik Jørgensen from Svendborg), Per Hansen (a pipemaker worked for S.Bang) and of course Paul Hansen (Hansen Briars) – a pupil of Sixten Ivarsson and one of the most respected and collected Danish artisans.

Allthough our todays pipe could be hardly a creature of any of these Hansens, it’s a nice, affordable, practical and the most probably Danish everydays smoking pipe with pleasing grain and well desgined shape.

The pipe markings are “HANSEN JUNIOR”. The length is 12.3 cm, bowl’s hight is 4.2 cm. External diameter of the bowl is 3.5 cm, internal diameter is 1.8 cm. The depth is 3.3 cm and this pipe weights 30 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The air hole is drilled a bit off center (that’s visible on the picture) and we had to patch a chip on the bottom of the bowl.

Denmark Nobody knows where his investigations can bring. We looked recently for an information about a rare Danish manufactory and came across the description of the American patent No. US3750677 (1971). There is described a basically new (at least according to inventor’s believe) construction of a smoking pipe: it has to be made as a…

  • SUNALP

Denmark, 1980s At first sight, the pipe appears to be a part of the illustrious “Danish Golden era” freehands, standing proudly alongside the likes of Preben Holm, Karl Erik, and Holtorp creations. And indeed, this initial impression seems warranted, as the nomenclature reads “SUNALP \ HANDCUT DENMARK.” However, our investigations led us to an interesting…

  • DANMORE 3031

Denmark, 1970s The pipe can be dated quite precisely. Hans Sørensen founded the Danmore company in the early 1970s and it was quite a lucky start up, Danmore pipes were popular and sold in the Pipe Dan catalogue as well. But due to raising labour costs and falling demand the pipes production was closed in…
