England, 1960-70s
A Charatan’s pipe of “the second Lane era” (1965-76), the period of the brightest blossoming of this brand, delightful shapes and grains, which eclipsed all others pipe makers including Dunhill. There’s no shape number on the pipe – it was made by one of the leading carvers at this factory regardless any catalogues. An amazing sample from Charatan’s artisans!
The pipe marking is “(L)”, “CHARATAN’S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ EXECUTIVE”, “MADE BY HAND”. The length is 15.2 cm (5.98″), the bowl’s height is 5.7 cm (2.24″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.0 cm (1.57″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.8 cm (1.89″) and this pipe weights 51 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The pipe comes with the original Charatan’s pipe box (marked with another model, it’s a frequent situation when a seller in a tobacco shop takes the first available box to pack the pipe).
