G. W. SIMS straight grain dublin

G. W. SIMS straight grain dublin

England, 1960-70s

According to some sources, G. W. used to work for Charatan’s (that is clearly visible on some Sims pipes) and most probably, for Barling as well. But finally he found himself as an independent tobacconist and an owner of a little shop in Northern London, which existed till 1980. A pleasantly looking slighltly bent dublin model from G. W. Sims.

The pipe markings are “G. W. Sims \ LONDON MADE” (not really perfectly visible). The length is 14.7 cm (5.79″), bowl’s height is 5.4 cm (2.12″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.7 cm (1.46″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.7 cm (1.85″) and this pipe weights 44 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber had some signs of a quite hot smoking, therefore we applied a bit of an activated charcoal solution to smooth it. The bowl surface had some chips and scratches, which we have carefully and reliably patched.

England, 1950-70s The pipe belongs to one of the most popular and respected pre-Cadogan Comoy’s grades. An intersting (and rare!) detail: the pipe was made and marked for a tobacconist in the capital of Netherlands….
