CHARATAN'S MAKE Selected 102

CHARATAN’S MAKE Selected 102

England, 1950s

One of very high grade Charatans pipes made before Lane era, most probably in the 1950s. Charatan’s admirers know the highest grade was the “Supreme”. Another one of the highest grades, “Selected” level was the second from the top. Perhaps the most sophisticated and mind-blowing “Selected” pipes were made during the 1960-70s period. But in our case the shape number is placed on the same side with the “CHARATAN’S MAKE” stamping, what is typical for Reuben era, before the company was aquired by Lane ltd. That’s an amazing finding indeed!

The pipe markings are “CHARATAN’S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ SELECTED”, “102”. The length is 14.0 cm (5.51″), bowl’s height is 5.2 cm (2.05″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.0 cm (1.57″), internal diameter is 2.0 cm (0.79″). The depth is 4.3 cm (1.69″) and this pipe weights 51 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
