England, 1950-60s

A very interesting and unusual Charatan’s make pipe with a tapered mouthpiece and a luxurious silver collar. This is the Belvedere pipe, either from the late Ruben or the early Lane period; soon, tapered mouthpieces will be replaced exclusively by saddle or patented Double Comfort (DC), and shape numbers will necessarily be accompanied by the letters ‘DC’ or ‘X,’ depending on the shape of the stem. A unique item!

Pipe markings “CHARATAN’S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ BELVEDERE”, “1180”
Length 13.2 cm (5.2″)
Bowl Height 4.4 cm (1.73″)
Outside Diameter 3.6 cm (1.42″)
Chamber Diameter 2.0 cm (0.79″)
Chamber Depth 3.5 cm (1.38″)
Weight 36 gr.

Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.

Previous owner’s excessive reaming required some effort to restore the chamber to its original round shape.

The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life.
