Even affordable and not very sophisticated pipes may demonstrate a great sense of taste and a big talent in choosing materials and carving. This Italian “Camelot” pipe made for the USA market impresses with the wonderful combination of the light staining and light acrylic shank extention plus the stem. A really good pipe for a really good price!

The pipe markings are “Camelot \ ITALY”. The length is 14.5 cm (5.71″), bowl’s height is 4.6 cm (1.81″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.3 cm (1.3″), internal diameter is 2.0 cm (0.79″). The depth is 3.4 cm (1.34″) and this pipe weights 38 gr. Briar, acrylic stem, no filter.

    Italy, 1930s The pipe from a recently obtained pre WWII collection. The “Roma” brand is usually associated with Savinelli, therefore we can’t exclude this is an early Savinelli product. In any case it’s a great pipe for its age, very moderately and accurately smoked, rich sandblast texture promises wonderful heat-resistance. Nice finding!

It seems the majority of pipes for this tobacconist were made at Big Ben in Netherlands and in Turkey (meerschaum), but some experts mentioned that Savinelli produced pipes for Thomson too. So, perhaps this is exactly that case.
