Denmark
A pipe from affordable and practical series made by Bjarne Nielsen (1941 – 2008). “He could have been an ambassador for his country, but instead he became an ambassador for Danish pipes”. Bjarne Nielsen’s career was really untypical and unique. Many pipe makers came from different areas, there were engineers, telecommunication technicians, blacksmiths, and so on and so forth. However that was a highly unexpected move for a diplomat worked at Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
But of course we should remember that there was the highest demand in Danish pipes in the 1960-70s and even diplomats had to support pipe makers at the international level. But since all pipe makers were overloaded with orders, Bjarne tried to offer his own pipes, and soon his hobby became a job of his life.
The pipe marking is “VIKING CLASSIC \ HANDMADE \ IN DENMARK”. The length is 14.7 cm (5.79″), bowl’s height is 4.0 cm (1.57″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.6 cm (1.81″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 3.1 cm (1.22″) and this pipe weights 49 gr. Briar, acrylic stem, no filter. The bowl had a few small dents carefully fixed during the restoration.
