BEN WADE Golden Walnut

BEN WADE Golden Walnut

Denmark, 1970s

This is perhaps the largest freehand pipe we have offered over the last years. The pipe was made by legendary Danish artisan Preben Holm in 1970s. Initially Ben Wade was an old good English family manufactory. Soon after the WWII the brand was acquired by Lane Ltd from USA, the producer of fantastic Charatan’s pipes at that time. The new Ben Wade era (“Danish Ben Wade”) started in 1970s when Hermann Lane and Preben Holm initiated series of amazing and sophisticated hand made freehand pipes.

The pipe markings are “Ben Wade \ GOLDEN WALNUT \ HAND MADE \ IN \ DENMARK”. The length is 18.5 cm (7.28″), bowl’s height is 7.2 cm (2.83″). External dimensions of the bowl are 4.9 x 5.8 cm (1.93 x 2.28″), internal diameter is 2.4 cm (0.94″). The depth is 3.7 cm (1.46″) and this pipe weights 76 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has normal smoked wear not excluding some roughness but without any major issues.

  • IIS

Denmark, 1970s Authoritative sources attribute the authorship of IIS pipes to Karl Erik, a talented Danish craftsman, or to the renowned Preben Holm. In our opinion, this piece was most definitely crafted in the workshop of Karl Erik Ottendahl—the specific type of briar and the meticulous shaping that highlights the grain are clear indicators of…

  • SAVINELLI Hand Made (Autograph)

Italy There’s a very interesting and very rare Savinelli pipe with the crowned snake logo on the stem. Such logos were noticed only to “Had made” and “Rock Grain” pipes and it seems the Hand Made ones were a second of the Savinelli’s luxurious Autograph line. It sounds quite reasonable, especially because “HAND MADE” was…
