England, 1995

A remarkable collector’s item showcasing the masterful work of Bill Ashton-Taylor, a former top specialist at Dunhill and later one of the most prominent English pipe makers of the late 20th century. The Old Church pipes stand out even among other, more valuable grades of his work, thanks to the particularly successful combination of expressive sandblasting and the natural shades of the finish.

Pipe markings “(LX)”, “Ashton \ OLD CHURCH”, “MADE IN \ ENGLAND 15”
Length 15.3 cm (6.02″)
Bowl Height 5.7 cm (2.24″)
Outside Dimensions 3.7 x 3.6 cm (1.46 x 1.42″)
Chamber Diameter 2.2 cm (0.87″)
Chamber Depth 4.8 cm (1.89″)
Weight 59 gr.

Briar, vulcanite stem, 9 mm filter. It appears that the pipe was smoked quite extensively in its past life. The chamber may seem slightly off-round, and the surface has been reinforced with activated carbon due to the presence of characteristic webbing. Additionally, upon close inspection, a very small gap can be seen between the shank and the mouthpiece; however, the mouthpiece itself remains firmly and securely in place. Also there is a scratch on the end of the shank near the stamping, it is not a crack.
