FRIBOURG & TREYER canadian

England, 1960-70s

Fribourg & Treyer was perhaps the most reputable English tobacconist. “While most collectors are familiar with the “Royal Appointment” accorded certain well-established businesses in England (most commonly seen on Dunhill packaging) FRIBOURG & TREYER’s not only held an identical appointment by the King of England, but they also had a similar “Royal Appointment” by the King of Belgium!” (с) pipedia.org. Obviously, the status of the oldest company mattered (F&T was founded in 1720) as well as the list of contractors, which produced pipes for F&T (GBD, BBB and Barling were undoubtedly among the most respected brands). Of course, this pipe is not from the XXVIII century; it was born rather in 1960-70s, before the closing of the F&T pipe shop. A very pleasant canadian pipe from F&T!

The pipe markings are ” REJECT”. The length is 13.6 cm (5.35″), bowl’s height is 4.0 cm (1.57″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.1 cm (1.22″), internal diameter is 1.7 cm (0.67″). The depth is 3.5 cm (1.38″) and this pipe weights 27 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. There were a couple of small chips and scratches patched on the bowl. The chamber is of a quite moderately smoked condotion not excluding a few small light scrathces but without any noticeable issues.

But untill 1967 family management of the company retained a certain independence. This pipe was made most probably between 1946 and 1967: the stamping is still arched but…

  • REJECT London Made

England A nicely made English pipe. The heavy bowled bent shape and cross cut grain look quite similar to Charatan’s products from 1960’s, but the pipe is just a beautiful item regardless its origin. And the dark spot on the bowl’s back doesn’t prevent a smoking pleasure.

  • CHACOM Lupenrein 309

France “Lupenrein” is a German word meaning “flawless”, “perfect”, “clean” (f.e. “clean diamond”) and we really couldn’t identify any issues with briar. Also interesting that the number 309 for such canadian shape pipes was widely used by Comoy’s during its best times and we suspect even refined experts couldn’t distinguish the pipe and English made…

  • DUNHILL Bruyere 50

England, 1971 In the beginning Dunhill created Bruyere. And several years (1910-1917) it was the single brand made by the company of a firm and dense Calabrian briar. And though pre WWII “bruyeres” were marked just by a letter “A” instead of model, the Bruyere series is the one of the oldest long-livers not only…
