Imagine a monastery, isolated from the world somewhere deep in the mountains or in a forest. Time passes, yet old books and ancient ceremonies are preserved here, and a language no longer spoken in the outside world still resonates within these walls.
Similarly, the Genod brand represents a separate and very old branch of the French Comoy tradition that remained in St-Claude while the main company migrated, changed owners, and merged. The oldest Comoy workshop, known as Comoy-David, was renamed Genod only in the 1970s.
As indicated by the marking, this particular pipe was made to order by Iwan Ries & Co., the renowned American tobacconist from Chicago.

Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. Upon close inspection, a very small gap can be seen between the shank and the mouthpiece; however, the mouthpiece itself remains firmly and securely in place.
The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life.
