According to Pipedia, “Two Star” BBB pipes were considered entry-level devices in the 1930s, catering to the practical and budget-conscious mass-market smoker. Nevertheless, the pipe we proudly offer today stands out as a truly unique and attractive piece with its exceptionally rare and elegantly refined pickaxe shape, exuding an overall impeccable condition. Our in-depth investigation unveiled that the “Two Stars” are still being produced by the Cadogan Group, the present custodian of the BBB trademark. However, it is unlikely to find anything akin to this essence of elegance among the modern BBB pipes.

Precisely dating BBB pipes has always posed a challenging endeavor, but the general state of the briar and ebonite suggests this pipe was crafted in the mid-20th century, perhaps no later than the 1950s, as its shape does not appear in the catalogs of the 1960s. Though we cannot completely dismiss the possibility of it being from the 1930s – these pipes have certainly proven their resilience over time!

This pipe hails from a highly respected and conservative English family manufacturer, Blakemar. The brand is named after the village of Blakesley and Thomas Martin, who established the company in 1890. Over time, management passed down to Thomas' son, Richard Martin, and then to Richard's nephew, Michael Billington. Despite these changes and relocating production to Litchborough, the company remained true to its policy of conservative evolution, occasionally introducing new shapes or 9 mm filters while still preserving the same quality pipes that have been produced since 1890.
