TAYLOR MADE poker
TAYLOR MADE poker
By a fortunate coincidence, William John Ashton-Taylor was born in 1945 in a house next to Alfred Dunhill's factory. It seemed like only a matter of time before he would become an apprentice in a factory at the age of 14 (Bill was still in school). Over the next quarter-century, Bill climbed through the ranks of the company, eventually reaching quality control and management positions. In 1980, Bill opened his own pipe repair shop and began crafting pieces for London companies. And very soon, in 1983, the world-famous sparkling Ashton appeared. This pipe is one of the first pipes Bill Ashton-Taylor made after leaving Dunhill. Today "Taylor Made" is an Ashton second and these pipes bear the stampings "Taylor Made by Ashton".Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

DUNHILL Cumberland 3103
DUNHILL Cumberland 3103, 2003
The “Cumberland” series is relatively young in comparison to other lines – it was introduced in 1979 and named in honor of Cumberland Street – the street where production and warehouse capacities of the company existed comfortably for many years. But such brindle ebonite stems (“cumberland” stems – also a Dunhill’s invention!) make the series one of the best sellers and an object of the highest attention of Dunhill admirers.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

DUNHILL Root Briar 572
DUNHILL Root Briar 572, (1960)
A very fine example from the top-grade Dunhill series. Typically, the absence of the year suffix suggests that the pipe was manufactured in 1960, as indicated by some experts, unless it falls within a patent period. However, the most intriguing detail of this pipe is the expertly replaced shank. The quality of the workmanship and the application of the stamping undeniably indicate that the procedure was conducted directly at the Dunhill factory, either as part of the production cycle or as a service maintenance. Perhaps that's why the year suffix is missing.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

CLAUDIO CAVICCHI CC
CLAUDIO CAVICCHI CC
Nobody can say that Claudio Cavicchi, a farmer from Bologna, Italy, is an impatient man. His profession as a farmer naturally lends itself to the development of a relaxed and contemplative lifestyle. Additionally, Claudio is renowned as a highly experienced pipe smoker and a multiple-time winner of Italian slow-smoking competitions (1983, 1985, and 1988) and World Championships (1989, 1991, and 1993), achieving the best score of 3 hours and 9 minutes (some sources even suggest his absolute record is just a few minutes over 4 hours). However, there was a time when his patience ran out. In 1974, as Pipedia recounts, "He ordered a Caminetto Oom Paul through a local tobacconist, and waited. Then he waited some more. After months had passed and no pipe arrived, he decided he'd waited long enough and made one himself. It turned out great. He had located a single block of briar and a clear acrylic mouthpiece, and he turned them into an Oom Paul that looked precisely like the Caminetto he wanted"Claudio's initial foray into pipe making involved creating pipes for himself and a few friends. However, in the early 1980s, he transitioned into becoming a full-time pipe maker. His dedication to using well-seasoned Calabrian and Ligurian briar, his expertly hand-cut acrylic mouthpieces, meticulous attention to grain and engineering, and his reliance on his own skills and the assistance of his beloved wife, Daniela, catapulted Cavicchi into a prominent position among modern neoclassical pipe makers. Experienced pipe smokers from around the world unanimously agree that Cavicchi pipes are of exceptional quality and never disappoint.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

COMOY'S Royal 185
COMOY’S Royal 185
The Comoy's Royal grade is both one of the oldest and one of the rarest to date. Royal Comoy pipes appeared in the late 1930s and were then considered the absolute highest grade. However, very soon, the Royal pipes were replaced by the Blue Ribband series. After the Second World War the Royal series reappeared as one of the top lines until it was discontinued in the early 1980s. In any case, all our sources agree that "The Royal has always been a high-grade Comoy."Indeed, it is a marvelous briar pipe with superb grain and amazing contrast, featuring a skillfully made golden collar with the initials of Henri Comoy. (Henri Comoy was the son of the company founder, François Comoy, and the first Comoy in the UK, which is why his name holds great importance for the company's history.) The pipe dates back to the 1950s-70s, as indicated by the encircled "MADE IN LONDON" marking. The pipe was lightly smoked, and the marks of the lathe are still noticeable inside the chamber.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

BBB two stars 188
BBB two star 188
According to Pipedia, "Two Star" BBB pipes were considered entry-level devices in the 1930s, catering to the practical and budget-conscious mass-market smoker. Nevertheless, the pipe we proudly offer today stands out as a truly unique and attractive piece with its exceptionally rare and elegantly refined pickaxe shape, exuding an overall impeccable condition. Our in-depth investigation unveiled that the "Two Stars" are still being produced by the Cadogan Group, the present custodian of the BBB trademark. However, it is unlikely to find anything akin to this essence of elegance among the modern BBB pipes.Precisely dating BBB pipes has always posed a challenging endeavor, but the general state of the briar and ebonite suggests this pipe was crafted in the mid-20th century, perhaps no later than the 1950s, as its shape does not appear in the catalogs of the 1960s. Though we cannot completely dismiss the possibility of it being from the 1930s – these pipes have certainly proven their resilience over time!Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

COMOY’S Grand Slam 97 Van Oosten
COMOY’S Grand Slam 97 Van Oosten
The pipe belongs to one of the most popular and respected pre-Cadogan Comoy’s grades. This attractive billiard was made during the 1950-70s period (see the nomenclature and the 3-part (inlaid) “C” on the stem). An intersting (and rare!) detail: the pipe was made and marked for a tobacconist in the capital of Netherlands. We didn't find an exact location of that tobacco shop, but Mr. van oosten was known also as a chairman of the National association of the tobacco distributors in the Netherlands in the 1990s.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

Mario Grandi pipe
Mario Grandi
Mario Grandi is not a real person. Mario Grandi is a brand name, or, to be more exact, a sub brand name related to Mastro Beraldi. At the same time Mastro Beraldi is not a real person either. The real name of a real person (and the very hardworking pipe carer!) who stands behind all those names is Aldo Pierluigi. He started carving pipes in the 1970s, all pipes are made from the best Italian briar, all bowls are carved and finished by hand, no templates. Most of the modern pipes from Aldo are marked “Mastro Beraldi”, pipes with Per Imei Amici (“for my friends”) nomenclature are made for friends and the best customers.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

G.W. SIMS horn
G.W. SIMS horn
According to Pipedia, George W. Sims used to work for Charatan’s (which is clearly visible in some Sims pipes) and for Barling (which is also not excluded). But finally, he found himself as an independent tobacconist and the owner of a little shop in Northern London, which existed until 1980. “G.W. Sims was one of the few English pipe makers who produced Danish style freehands carved from specially selected plateau briar. Mr. Sims willingly made pipes to personal specifications” (Pipedia). Some customers made a long way from other English cities to purchase wonderful G.W. Sims pipes for their collection.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

SAVINELLI Rock Grain
SAVINELLI Rock Grain
An exciting discovery for Savinelli collectors: the crowned serpent logo was only stamped on Savinelli Rock Grain and some of the Savinelli Hand Made (Autograph) freehands. Although this pipe has no shape number, the rich and distinctive rustication is reminiscent of some pre-1970 Savinelli products. While the logo has faded slightly, it is still clearly visible.Di seguito la traduzione in italiano / Italian translation is below

M.L.C. Ambrol
M.L.C. Ambrol
In the 1930th the fisher and in combination – the chief physician of Chicago, doctor Paul E. Grabov liked to sit smoking pipes with the owner of a drugstore and the same inveterate fisher Mr. Brown. Sometimes they were also adjoined by Mr. Louis Linkman, the owner of the tobacco company of the same name and pipe factory right there in Chicago. In one of such evenings Mr. Linkman asked whether Dr. Grabow agrees if Linkman calls by his name an essentially new, innovative series of pipes. The physician caught “such a huuuuuge perch” yesterday and of course agreed. And soon “Doctor Grabov” pipes blew up the North American market. This agreement wasn’t anywhere recorded, and doctor Grabov didn’t receive any royalty. But Linkman’s company supplied him with pipes until the end of his life, and the doctor participated with pleasure in development of new models. Before Dr. Grabow, Linkman's pipes were named in honor of the owner’s mother: M.L.C. – “Mary Linkman & Co”. One of such pipes we are proud to offer today.
