VIPRATI La Pipa

Italy, 1980-90s

A creature of the one of the most respected and collected modern Italian high grade pipe makers. Luigi Viprati (1953) started to carve pipes during his military service (simlarly to Karl Erik) and since 1982 he’s a full time pipe maker. Viprati uses clover signs for the grading: 1, 2, 4 and 5 (in ascending order). Rusticated pipes are ungraded.

Our todays pipe is not only made of a great briar, wonderfully designed and finished but shows also outstanding jeweller skills of the artisan: such an Italian interpretation of the spigot system!

The pipe markings are “HAND MADE \ — ITALY —“, “(LA PIPA) \ L. VIPRATI” and two clover signs. The length is 14.0 cm (5.51″), bowl’s height is 4.6 cm (1.81″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.6 cm (1.81″), internal diameter is 2.2 cm (0.87″). The depth is 3.8 cm (1.5″) and this pipe weights 54 gr. Briar, acrylic stem, no filter.
