SAVINELLI Long John 802

Italy, unsmoked

One of the famous incredibly long Savinelli pipes from the “Long John” series. It’s hardly possible to date the pipe precisely, the only thing we can say for sure: it’s an “after 1970” product: the shape number consists of three digids. And it seems the pipe was stored in the unsmoked condition at least one or two decades: there’re few small age related dots on the vulcanite stem, but that’s rather an evidence of the pipe’s considerable age than a drawback.

Interesting that like many other Savinelli Long John pipes this one was made with a briar shank extention to achieve the desired length. And that’s definitely not a repair – the rustication was made already after the extention was set.

The pipe markings are “LONG JOHN \ SAVINELLI \ PRODUCT”, “802 \ ITALY”. The length is 17.9 cm (7.05″), bowl’s height is 4.5 cm (1.77″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.5 cm (1.38″), internal diameter is 1.9 cm (0.75″). The depth is 3.9 cm (1.54″) and this pipe weights 44 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
