England, 1950-70s
Sasieni was perhaps the one of the most known family manufactories noninferior to Dunhill neither on quality, nor on fame. The founder of the company used to work for Charatan’s and for Dunhill, but dis-accorded with Alfred Dunhill on production questions and then later once again – in views of a quantity and a color of dots on stems.
However, everything turned out to the best and soon many collectors and just dandies were hunting for Sasieni pipes with 4 dots from both sides! The company existed as a family business till 1979. New investors decided to limit production only to “4 dots” pipes without regard to quality, and all pipes of the “family era” including seconds passed into the category of especially valued, collected and respected. One of the great examples: very lightly smoked stylish Sasieni Old England pipe from the “Alfred era” (made before 1979).
The pipe markings are “OLD ENGLAND \ LONDON MADE”, “MADE IN ENGLAND \ 97”. The length is 14.0 cm, bowl’s hight is 3.7 cm. External diameter of the bowl is 4.1 cm, internal diameter is 1.9 cm. The depth is 2.8 cm and this pipe weights 30 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
