“Be it known that I, Abraham A. Sasieni, a citizen of Great Britain, …, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for a Pipe Stem…” Gentleman whos patent application we quote above was more known as Alfred Sasieni (second A stands for Alfred). And this invention of a new owner of the really famous family business is worldwide known now as a Sasieni Fantail stem. So the new owner of one of the most successfull family pipe companies began his era in the Sasieni brand history; there were many new grades and shapes introduced, and of course many creative changes and inventions took place. The US patent D-170067 was obtained in 1953, but since patent stamping was discontinued in the late 1950s, we can date the pipe approximately between 1953 and 1957.

The pipe markings are “Sasieni \ FANTAIL”, “MADE IN \ ENGLAND”, “PAT D-170067”, “LONDON MADE”, “55”. The length is 15.5 cm (6.1″), bowl’s height is 4.9 cm (1.93″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.8 cm (1.5″), internal diameter is 1.9 cm (0.75″). The depth is 4.0 cm (1.57″) and this pipe weights 39 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.
