PETERSON Sherlock Holmes Squire

PETERSON Sherlock Holmes Squire

Ireland, 2007

Yet another one pipe from the luxury 7-pipes series initiated by Peterson’s in 1987 to honour Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters: Sherlock Holmes Original, Watson, Squire, Professor, Deerstalker, Baskerville and Baker Street. Soon after the “Original” series success an additional “The Return of Sherlock Holmes” collection was launched with the 7 additional shapes: The Mycroft, Hudson, Strand, Rathbone, Lestrade, Hansom, and the Milverton. So, it seems Peterson’s made their adorers quite busy for the next century ?

This time it’s the “Squire” (Peterson shape XL15).

The pipe marking is “Peterson \ OF DUBLIN \ SHERLOCK \ HOLMES”, “SQUIRE” on the stummel, “Peterson’s STERLING SILVER” and silver hallmarks with the italic “W” for 2007 on the collar. The length is 14.0 cm (5.51″), bowl’s height is 4.5 cm (1.77″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.8 cm (1.89″), internal diameter is 2.2 cm (0.87″). The depth is 3.1 cm (1.22″) and this pipe weights 58 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, 9 mm filter. The chamber was intensively cleaned by the previous owner therefore the walls are a little bit “barrel-shaped” now. The bowl surface has a few not very noticeable scratched and identations, but we’ve decided to keep the unique original finish of this beautyful pipe.

Also, pay attention to the absence of the COM stamp (‘Country of Manufacture’). According to Pipedia, this is characteristic…

  • KAPP PETERSON’S MM

Ireland, 1910-15 Despite its previous owner claimed that the pipe comes from the Pre-Patent times, we would politely disagree. The pipe is de facto a “Peterson system”. The innovation of the Peterson’s System pipes and the beginning of the Peterson’s patent period happened almost simultaneously close to 1875. Therefore it’s difficult to imagine a “pre…

  • PETERSON’S Dunmore 73 unsmoked

Ireland, 1970-80s The Dunmore series was produced in 1970-80s and represents in fact the same highly popular Peterson’s System design. But the shank is decorated with a nice carving instead of an nickel or a silver endcap. Now such Dunmore pipes are a rarity and cause much more collectors’ interest than “standard” Peterson’s Standard devices….
