“Herbert Love …traded as Murray Frame for 80 years” the Herald Scotland wrote in an article about the closure of Herbert Love’s last independent smoke shop in Glasgow. Murray-Frame was one of the last independent pipe companies in the UK (and appears to be the last in Scotland) and was only acquired by Cadogan in late 1990, as were many other pipe manufacturers. So it seems that Mr. Love did not give up then and tried to continue his smoking business while he could.

Today’s pipe appears to have been manufactured much earlier than in the 1990s – just look at the fancy stamping, attractive grain, and lovely classic apple shape found, for example, at Comoy’s in their heyday.

Pipe markings “MURRAY-FRAME \ & LOVE \ MADE IN ENGLAND”
Length 14.6 cm (5.75″)
Bowl Height 4.0 cm (1.57″)
Outside Diameter 3.7 cm (1.46″)
Chamber Diameter 1.9 cm (0.75″)
Chamber Depth 3.2 cm (1.26″)
Weight 41 gr.

Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. During the restoration process, we had to fix several more and less noticeable scratches and dents on the bowl.

The pipe was accurately smoked, it has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life.
