HARDCASTLE'S Marquis 281

HARDCASTLE’S Marquis 281

England, 1946-67

This poker shape Hardcastle’s pipe from the transition period (1946-1967) is an impressive offspring of a very interesting and fruitful time. During this era, the company was already a 100% subsidiary of Dunhill, but family management still retained a certain level of independence.

Pipe markings “HARDCASTLE’S \ LONDON MADE \ Marquis”, “281”
Length 14.1 cm (5.55″)
Bowl Height 4.7 cm (1.85″)
Outside Diameter 3.7 cm (1.46″)
Chamber Diameter 1.9 cm (0.75″)
Chamber Depth 3.5 cm (1.38″)
Weight 47 gr.
Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. We have fixed a few dents and a surface hairline crack on the bowl (on the right side from the smoker) and corrected the stem near the button. You may notice the traces under good light. Unfortunately, the logo on the stem is barely visible.

The pipe was accurately smoked, it has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life.

While Dunhill Root Briar was the highest serial grade, in this case the finish is rather a hint on a natural structure of a briar root. Unlike the main stream of Hardcastle’s pipes processed at these times by a…

    England, 1930-40s A pre-Dunhill (Family era) Hardcastle’s Camden lovat made before 1946.
