HARDCASTLE'S Marquis 281

HARDCASTLE’S Marquis 281

England, 1946-67

This poker shape Hardcastle’s pipe from the transition period (1946-1967) is an impressive offspring of a very interesting and fruitful time. During this era, the company was already a 100% subsidiary of Dunhill, but family management still retained a certain level of independence.

Pipe markings “HARDCASTLE’S \ LONDON MADE \ Marquis”, “281”
Length 14.1 cm (5.55″)
Bowl Height 4.7 cm (1.85″)
Outside Diameter 3.7 cm (1.46″)
Chamber Diameter 1.9 cm (0.75″)
Chamber Depth 3.5 cm (1.38″)
Weight 47 gr.
Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. We have fixed a few dents and a surface hairline crack on the bowl (on the right side from the smoker) and corrected the stem near the button. You may notice the traces under good light. Unfortunately, the logo on the stem is barely visible.

The pipe was accurately smoked, it has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life.

England, 1946-67 A very well preserved tall (already with an obvious hint on a chimney) billiard from the early “”Dunhill” era of the Hardcastle’s history, it was born in the period from 1946 for 1967, i.e. at the time of a harmonious merge of “family” technologies and “Dunhill” management. The pipe was smoked perhaps once…

  • CHARATAN’S MAKE 381DC

England The competition between Dunhill and Charatan was like a discussion what is more important – a form or a content. Or it would be better to say: the grain or the shape. England 1950-70s A very well made GBD pipe from the period before 1980 (in other words before the merge with Comoys under the Cadogans roof).
