HARDCASTLE Special De Luxe 9

England

No, let’s not begin so frighteningly. Are here any psychologists reading us? What they think about a collecting: is it a disease or not? On the one hand, the majority at one of the professional forums took quite a sober position “why not if you’re happy with this?”. On the other hand, one of the most discussed and eternal subjects at many pipe smoker forums sounds “how many pipes are necessary for the happiness?”. So far there were no upper limits found yet.

What if for happiness we need not any pipe but Hardcastle’s? And what if we need not any Hardcastle’s but the Special De Luxe series? And what if these Hardcastle’s Special De Luxe pipes aren’t stored on a shelf, but have been refreshed and already went to new owners? Is it still an obsession?

We do really like this nice series made in 1960’s-1970’s. We have already published Special De Luxe number 8, numbers 4 and 5 weren’t published here, but they successfully found a new houm (for the interested we uploaded their pictures at Facebook, welcome), number 108 went with our small help to the homeland of one of the best Ukrainian brandies to our old friend Valery I.

How many models remains – we don’t know exactly, but we’re working. Today here is the number 9. A very pleasant sandblasted “banker”. Also with a silver ring. It’s the mark of the status!

The pipe markings are “HARDCASTLE \ SPECIAL DE LUXE \ 9”. The length is 13.4 cm, bowl’s hight is 3.2 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 4.6 cm and 2.0 cm. The depth is 2.7 cm and this pipe weights 46 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, cooler.

England We have carefully examined all our records and found only one manufacturer with the exactly such COM (Country of Manufacturing) stamping where the letter E in “England” is placed below the DE in “Made”. • HARDCASTLE’S Briar Root

England, 1946-67 A very interesting and very rare example from the first “dunhill” period, i.e. 1946-1967. While Dunhill Root Briar was the highest serial grade, in this case the finish is rather a hint on a natural structure of a briar root. Unlike the main stream of Hardcastle’s pipes processed at these times by a…

England, 1946-67 Very nice and rare Hardcastle’s pipe made approximately between 1946 and 1967! Almost full straight grain!
