GBD Irwin's 9438

GBD Irwin’s 9438

England, 1950-70s

This is perhaps one of the most recognized, respected and collected GBD shapes – the heavy bowled 9438 rhodesian! A very nice sample with an exciting grain and contrast made before 1980 (before acquisition by Cadogan). Sincerely recommended! Great finding!

The pipe markings are “IRWIN’S \ LONDON MADE”, “LONDON ENGLAND \ 9438”. The length is 13.0 cm (5.12″), bowl’s height is 4.1 cm (1.61″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.4 cm (1.73″), internal diameter is 2.0 cm (0.79″). The depth is 3.4 cm (1.34″) and this pipe weights 57 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem (slightly corrected near the button area, you may see the track under a good light), no filter. The bowl had a few very small chips which were carefully patched during the restoration.

A decent response to Danish artisans!

  • GBD Prehistoric 269
