GBD Dynasty 549

GBD Dynasty 549

England, 1950-70s

A very rare GBD pipe! Even experienced collectors are unfamiliar with the “Dynasty” series. The only thing we can say for sure: this is the “Pre-Comoys” pipe made before 1981.

The pipe markings are “(GBD) \ DYNASTY \ LONDON.ENGLAND \ 549”. The length is 13.5 cm, bowl’s hight is 3.9 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 4.1 cm and 2.1 cm. The depth is 3.0 cm and this pipe weights 39 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The chamber has been protected with a break-in coat. The stem is newly made from the fresh piece of vulcanite so we can consider the pipe as a “partially unsmoked” :-).

England 1980-90s A very stylish GBD pipe made not such a long time ago – approximately in the 1980s. Nevertheless the original shape (named most frequently a “Calabash” or a “Bell”) is strongly reminescent of old good English calabash pipes. What an amazing continuity of traditions!

England, 1950-70s A “special edition” of one of the most successful GBD Prehistoric series. The designation “Conquest” (along with “Collector” and “Colossus”) served for marking of especially large pipes. At the same time the name Collector is really justified: pipe smokers from many countries (and furthermore refined collectors) appreciate and extol such convincingly large pipes….

England, 1950-70s This is perhaps one of the most recognized, respected and collected GBD shapes – the heavy bowled 9438 rhodesian! A very nice sample with an exciting grain and contrast made before 1980 (before acquisition by Cadogan). Sincerely recommended! Great finding!

England, 1950-70s There was probably no other such creative and innovative manufacturer offering that variety of shapes and grades. • GBD Pedigree 293

England, 1950-70s The highest grade GBD pipe was made in the 1950-70s, but definitely before the acquisition of the company by Cadogan.
