DESIGN BERLIN Gotha-58

Germany

A fancy creature with the attractive silver work and twin bore stem born at the German “Design Berlin” pipe factory. Design Berlin (DB, or Pfeifenstudio Hartmann before 1975) was the first German company started producing pipes after the World War II and is currently the second German manufacturer after Vauen. The models range contains a variety from just nice pipes up to exquisite freehands.

Interesting that at the end of 1980s Rainer Barbi made some pipes for DB “Manufaktur Berlin” series. These pipes were additionally stamped “design r.barbi“. Karl Erik in his last years sold the brand name “Karl Erik” to Design Berlin, but in fact a few latest KE pipes with DB twin bore stem were made by artisan himself.

The pipe marking is “Gotha-58”. The length is 12.6 cm (4.96″), bowl’s height is 5.0 cm (1.97″). External dimensions of the bowl are 4.9 x 4.3 cm (1.93 x 1.69″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.1 cm (1.61″) and this pipe weights 66 gr. Briar, acrylic stem, 9 mm filter.
