COMOY'S McGahey 34677

COMOY’S McGahey 34677

England, 1950-70s

A very convincing and very lightly smoked traditional English billiard made by Comoy’s. Their McGahey series was made most probably for the McGahey tobacconist located in Exeter, Devon, UK. The shop is still open nowadays and you can easily find it on Google Maps. We haven’t been there yet, but every English tobacconist is worth attention for sure! 🙂

The pipe markings are “McGAHEY”, “MADE \ IN \ LONDON \ ENGLAND”, “34677”. The length is 14.8 cm (5.83″), bowl’s height is 5.2 cm (2.05″). External diameter of the bowl is 4.0 cm (1.57″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 4.4 cm (1.73″) and this pipe weights 50 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.

England Herb Wilczak and Tom Colwell mentioned two manufacturers of Highgate pipes: L. Orlik Ltd and Comoy’s. However, if you look at the stampings, there is no doubt: this Serif font on Comoy pipes cannot be confused with any other. The pipe looks like Comoy’s answer to some of the innovative American and English brands…

  • COMOY’S Everyman 6

England, 1950-70s A pleasant representative of the very popular Comoy’s second line from the 1950-70s. Traditional English middle size billiard becomes an eye-catching, unusual and even a bit “freehandish” look with the newly made fancy acrylic stem.
