CHARATAN’S MAKE Selected diamond shank

England, 1960s

An amazing example of the Lane era Charatan’s very high grade pipes art. That’s not yet an incredibly huge creature specific for the Charatan’s late 1960s, but the pipe has at the same time almost no conservative family era traits, thus we would date this fine piece of art by the middle of the 1960s. The “Selected” grade was the second on the top just after the “Supreme”. Though the pipe with such a distinct and impressive straight grain and elegant remarkable shape would be an honour to any highest level series offered by any luxury manufacturer! Don’t miss it!

The pipe markings are “(L)”, “CHARATAN’S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ SELECTED”. The length is 15.8 cm (6.22″), bowl’s height is 5.1 cm (2.01″). External diameter of the bowl is 3.4 cm (1.34″), internal diameter is 2.1 cm (0.83″). The depth is 3.9 cm (1.54″) and this pipe weights 33 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The shank is extended with an additional piece of briar – that’s not a repair, just a factory trick – a very fine work indeed!
